Brief History of the Idaho State Flag

The state of Idaho has a rich history, and that history is reflected in its flag. The current design was adopted in 1907, but it has undergone a few changes since then. Here’s a brief overview of the evolution of the Idaho flag.

The first official flag of Idaho was adopted in 1891, shortly after Idaho became a state. The design featured a blue field with the state seal in the center. The words “Idaho” and “Statehood Day 1890” were also included on the flag.

In 1903, the words “Statehood Day 1890” were removed from the flag, as they were no longer accurate. Then, in 1907, the current design was adopted. It features a simple red, white, and blue color scheme with the word “Idaho” in gold letters across the middle.

Since 1907, the only change to the Idaho flag has been an intensification of the colors. In 1917, official colors for the flag were established as Old Glory Red, Old Glory Blue, and golden yellow. These are still the colors used on the Idaho flag today.

The Idaho flag is a reflection of the state’s history and its commitment to simplicity. The current design has been in use for over a century and continues to be flown with pride by residents of Idaho today.
