The crescent moon represented the13 original colonies, while the stars represented each of the Confederate States of America. This flag would be used until 1894, when it was replaced by the current Mississippi flag.

The current Mississippi flag was adopted in 1894 and features a blue background with a red stripe running down the center. In the center is a white five-pointed star.
